Not required The Supervisory Police Officer observes and evaluates the performance of Police Service personnel assigned to his/her supervision; Responsible for correcting below standard performance of personnel and his/her subordinates' skills by variation of assignments to different positions; Initiates requests for personnel to meet requirements and assists in final decisions concerning appointments, promotions, reassignments, and other status changes or recognition of outstanding performance; Assists the Deputy Chief, Police Service in the assignment of staff in Police Service; Exercises a maximum degree of communication and contact with the physically dispersed shift force; Responsible for enforcement of all offenses against the criminal laws of the United States, the protection of all civil rights and presentation of all peaceful environments, and the protection of all property owned and controlled by the US Department of Veterans Affairs from sabotage, espionage, fire and willful damage or destruction; Develops policies regarding law within the facility and grounds on behalf of the Chief of Police; Directs and plans the work of Police Services personnel; Directs and controls the preliminary investigations into criminal activities that include felony and misdemeanor investigations, allegations of fraud, misconduct and mistreatment. Responsibilities Provides administrative and technical supervision for six to ten Police Officers to ensure work of the unit is accomplished; Serves as a police operational adviser to the Deputy Police Chief; Ensures all required functions are completed within all laws, guidelines, policies, and time frames; Enforcement of Federal Laws and VA regulations; Preservation of the peace; Prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes occurring on VA-controlled property; Arresting violators; Traffic control; Providing assistance to citizens in emergency situations, including the protection of personnel, civil rights, and VA owned or controlled property. This is a NON-BARGAINING UNIT position. FIRST TIME SUPERVISORS MUST SERVE A ONE (1) YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD. If patient needs arise, the incumbent of the above position may be reassigned within the VA Central Texas Health Care System. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/27/2020. Time-In-Grade Requirement:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-8 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7 level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note:
Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. The Selective Placement Factor (SPF) for this position is at least one (1) year experience utilizing arrest authority. You may qualify based on your experience as described below:

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-07) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
- Enforces appropriate Federal, State, and local criminal codes in the protection of human life, public property, and the civil rights of all individuals, Including the preservation of a peaceful environment; - Plans, directs, and supervises the work of subordinates; - Advises on procedures, standards, and responses to address law enforcement and security requirements; - Determines resource needs and allocates resources in response to patrol and security weaknesses. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work requires, on a regular and recurring basis, considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as frequent climbing of multiple flights of stairs, lifting heavy objects over 45 pounds, crouching or crawling in restrictive areas during search or pursuit activities, and defending oneself or others against physical attack. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment regularly involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress, which require a range of safety and other precautions. Officers work in a high crime area where the public has easy access and officers must patrol in locations where persons may be armed while attempting auto theft, vandalism, narcotics transactions, and other offenses which can lead to assault with or without a weapon in order to avoid arrest. The work is performed in a setting in which there is regular and recurring exposure to moderate discomforts and unpleasantness, such as high/low temperatures, climbing stairs in office buildings, walking foot patrol in and around large buildings or adverse weather conditions during extended periods of patrol duties. He/she may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as respirator, boots, and goggles. The incumbent's daily duties expose him/her to potentially dangerous situations in maintaining a safe environment for others. The risk of physical attack by armed and unarmed persons is ever present during routine duties. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Successful completion of a pre-employment/pre-placement examination may be required. NOTE:
VA Police Officers will possess a valid state operator's license (driver license). (In accordance with Texas law, an individual can legally drive with a valid, unexpired driver license from another state or nation for up to 90 days after moving to Texas. The individual must apply in person at any driver license office for a Texas driver license within those 90 days to continue driving legally.) Education:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
