Psychology Technician

The CoE is responsible for leading clinical research and education efforts on post-deployment adjustment Including biological, psychological and social adjustment and rehabilitation. Core staff are funded through the congressional mandate to Office of Mental Health. Core staff also have grant funding from several federal agencies to develop and test state-of-the-art procedures for assessment, treatment, education and research on returning war veterans and their families. The CoE supports and houses an Assessment Core, a Neurolmaging and Genetics Core with a dedicated mobile 3T magnet, a Treatment Development and Treatment Outcome Core, an Education and Dissemination Core, and a Data Management and Analysis Core. The Psychology Technician will report to the Core Leaders. The Psychology Technician is likely to work under two or all CoE Cores. GS-0181-05, Primary purpose of the Position (50%):
Receive training in clinical interviewers; Assist with recruitment and retention goals and; assist with data entry. Training (30%):
Receives training to conduct clinical interviews with research participants in accordance with instructions provided in the instrument's training manual. Gathers and records information from research participants via a variety of standardized clinical Interviews. Observes and notes any participant behavior which may be significant or may possibly confound the results of the study. Familiarity with clinical diagnostic instruments such as the Semi-Structured Clinical Instrument for the DSM or the Clinician Administered PTSD Scale is necessary. Assist (20%):
Assists with recruitment and retention goals as required by the funded and IRB approved protocol(s) that the Incumbent is working on. This includes maintaining a weekly tracking spreadsheet of all initial human subject screens, enrollment into the study and progress through the study sessions as outlined in each protocol. Assists with data entry Enter and maintain research data on various spreadsheets. Performs other related duties as assigned. GS-0181-06, Primary purpose of the Position:
To serve as a Psychology Technician in a developmental capacity, performing assignments designed to further develop the employee's skills and techniques. The position has been restructured for training purposes from the target position, Psychology Technician, GS-0181-7, PD #674-7619-0. The employee may be promoted when all training has been completed and all regulatory and procedural requirements have been met. Major Duties:
This position is established to perform developmental duties substantially similar to the targeted full performance level of Psychology Technician, GS-181-7. Nature of Assignment:
This is the first independent working level position beyond the developmental level. Assignments become less general. Work is progressively complex requiring research of specific issues or problems. Level of Responsibility:
Incumbent independently develops an approach to the assignment and takes responsibility for timely and accurate completion of assignments. Supervisor assigns priorities and objectives, providing guidance as needed. Work is monitored periodically and reviewed for technical adequacy and consistency with objectives. The extent of guidance and review gradually decreases and assignments become increasingly general, coinciding with the increasing responsibility of the position. GS-0181-07, Primary purpose of the Position:
Gathering Research information and training and certification of clinical interviewers in gathering research information; Ensure adherence to CoE research protocols; Ensure regulatory compliance; 4) ensure recruitment and retention goals are met and; 5) provide oversight of data collection and data entry. Research:
Gathering research information through Clinical Interviews and research instruments and trains personnel gathering research information are properly trained and certified on the use of specific clinical diagnostic interviews and instruments in accordance with instructions provided in the instrument's training manual. Gathers and records information from research participants via a variety of standardized clinical Interviews. Exercise independent judgement to identify behavior in participant interviews, identified through observation or review of notes, which may be significant or may possibly confound the results of the study. Trains and instructs other Psychology Technicians on well accepted and commonly accepted practices and Interview techniques which ensure standardization of participant treatment and control undue Influence of extraneous variables. Experience:
You must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 or equivalent level that gives you the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform in the normal line of progression for a Psychology Technician. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Experience that involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities of either humans or, under laboratory conditions, animals. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists. OR, Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following subjects:
psychology, statistics, or other directly related subjects. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

The incumbent's work is primarily sedentary and requires long periods of time working and keyboarding at a computer workstation. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
